John Crompton

John Crompton is a senior advisor to XMS Capital Partners. John has over 30 years of experience in banking and capital markets. Having started his career at HM Treasury, John spent 20 years at Morgan Stanley where roles included leading the US, EMEA and Non-Japan Asia Equity Capital Markets businesses, and building the firm’s UK banking footprint as deputy UK head. John returned twice to the public sector: first as HM Treasury’s senior corporate finance advisor (seconded from Morgan Stanley), and after a brief stint at Merrill Lynch, as UKFI’s head of Market Investments, managing the taxpayers’ stakes in Lloyds and RBS. John later spent 6 years at HSBC, where he led the global Equity Capital Markets and Corporate Finance groups.
John has since taken on non-executive and advisory roles. Currently he serves as an independent non-executive director of ICE Benchmark Administration and as Vice Chair and non-executive director of Marshall of Cambridge Ltd, a privately-owned aerospace, defence and property development company. He also acts as a senior advisor to 2RSQUARED, an asset management technology platform. John is an active investor in several FinTech firms.
In addition to his commercial activities, John is a Foundation Fellow of University College, Oxford and a mentor at the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford. He is also a governor of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
John has a first class degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford.
